Taking Your Blood Test – Important Instructions

At-home blood testing is simple, but a few key steps will ensure your sample is accurate and processed without delay.
  • Take the test before 10am (testosterone peaks in the morning), having fasted for at least 8 hours. Drinking water only is fine.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise 24 hours before. Heavy lifting or intense workouts can temporarily alter hormone levels.
  • Avoid alcohol the night before. Alcohol can temporarily lower testosterone and affect other biomarkers.
  • Please post your sample as soon as possible.

Instructions

Instructions for taking a lancet finger-prick blood test

This kit uses a spring-loaded lancet to collect drops of blood from your fingertip. Follow the steps below carefully for a smooth and successful collection.

Get ready

  1. Wash your hands thoroughly with warm water and soap.
  2. Lay out all kit contents.
  3. Choose a fingertip (ring or middle finger works best). Avoid the thumb.
  4. Twist off the cap of the collection tube and keep it close by.

Warm the collection area

  1. Good blood flow is essential. Warm your hands under a tap or soak them in warm water for 2 minutes.
  2. Shake your hand gently at your side to encourage circulation.
  3. Clean the fingertip with the alcohol wipe and let it air dry completely.

Collect the sample

  1. Prepare the lancet
    1. Twist off the lancet cap.
    2. Place the flat end firmly against the side of your fingertip (not the pad—this gives better flow).
  2. Make the incision
    1. Press the lancet firmly until it clicks.
    2. Wipe away the first drop of blood with the gauze.
  3. Encourage blood flow
    1. Gently massage from the base of the finger toward the tip.
    2. Do not squeeze aggressively – this can dilute the sample.
  4. Fill the tube
    1. Allow drops to fall naturally into the collection tube.
    2. Fill to the upper line indicated.

Finish the collection

  1. Once filled, securely snap the cap onto the tube.
  2. Apply pressure to your fingertip with gauze for 30 seconds.
  3. Apply the provided plaster.

Mix and label the sample

  1. Gently invert the tube 5 times to mix. Do not shake.
  2. Write your details on the tube label above the barcode and stick onto the collection tube.

Prepare for return

  1. Place the labeled tube into the clear biohazard bag and seal it.
  2. Do not remove the absorbent pad inside the bag.
  3. Dispose of remaining materials safely.
  4. Place the sealed biohazard bag into the return mailer.
  5. Fold and place the request form in the return mailer, apply the Track24 label, and post your sample the same day.
  6. We recommend taking your test and posting it between Monday and Thursday to ensure the fastest return and processing of your blood test.
