Clomid and/or Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG) Administering instructions

Follow these steps to safely and effectively administer your fertility-friendly testosterone treatment at home–whether it’s orally as a tablet (Clomid) or as an injectable (hCG).

Tips – Clomid

Before You Take Clomid – Important Details

  • Take it at the same time each day. Consistency helps maintain stable hormone levels. Morning or evening is fine, just pick one and stick to it.
  • Take it with or without food. Clomid can be taken on an empty stomach, but if it causes nausea, try taking it with a meal.
  • Swallow whole with water. Don’t crush or split the tablets unless advised by your doctor. See instructions below for splitting a 50mg tablet into a 25mg dose.
  • Use a pill organiser or alarm. Since Clomid is taken daily or every other day depending on your protocol, a reminder helps avoid missed doses.

Instructions – Clomid

Instructions for taking Clomid tablets

Taken orally, Clomid couldn’t be simpler! Always follow your treatment plan and prescribed dosage.

  1. Check your prescribed dose. The most common starting dose is 25–50 mg daily or every other day. In order to take a 25mg dose, you will need to split a scored 50mg tablet into two. Follow your doctor’s specific instructions.
  2. Take the tablet orally. Swallow the tablet with a glass of water.
  3. Stick to the schedule. Don’t double up if you miss a dose, just take the next one as scheduled unless advised otherwise.
  4. Order regular blood tests. Usually every 4–6 weeks to check your progress.

Tips – hCG

Before You Take Clomid – Important Details

Reconstitute just before use. Our hCG (brand name: Gonasi) comes as a powder and pre-filled solvent ampoule that needs to be mixed together. Each vial is single-use only.
Inject subcutaneously or intramuscularly. For self-administration, subcutaneous injection (into belly fat) is easiest and effective. IM (into the muscle) is also possible but more complex. Speak to your doctor if you want more information.
Use immediately after mixing. Once you reconstitute hCG, it should be used right away and not stored. It does not contain preservatives like bacteriostatic water.
Check the concentration after mixing. Once mixed, the entire solution is the total dose, so you must calculate your volume accordingly if splitting doses.

Instructions for self-administering hCG injections

Get ready

  1. Before use, wash your hands thoroughly. Make sure that the accessories are clean and placed on a clean surface (table).
  2. Prepare the solvent. Open the ampoule containing the solvent. On the neck of the ampoule there is a small colored dot. Gently flick the top of the ampoule to dislodge any liquid remaining in the tip. Press firmly on the tip of the ampoule so to break it near the coloured dot. Put the needle on the syringe and draw the solvent from the ampoule.
  3. Attach needle to syringe. Remove the cap from the prefilled syringe. Insert the 21 gauge needle (green cap) adapted for reconstitution of the solution.
  4. Rest the syringe on a clean surface and take care not to touch the needle.

Reconstitute the solution

  1. Remove the protective aluminium seal from the vial containing the powder and clean the surface of the stopper with an alcohol soaked cotton ball.
  2. Slowly inject the solvent into the vial through the rubber stopper.
  3. To completely dissolve the powder, slowly rotate the vial (without removing the syringe). Do not shake in order to avoid bubbles forming. If the solution is not clear or contains particles, it must be discarded.
  4. After the powder has dissolved (this should occur immediately), turn the vial upside down and slowly draw the solution into the syringe.

Administer your dose

  1. If you wish to administer your dose under the skin (subcutaneously), you must remove the needle used for reconstitution and replace it with the thin needle adapted for subcutaneous administration (27 G needle with grey cap). Your doctor will recommend the injection site.
  2. Before administering, remove any air bubbles by holding the syringe vertically, with the needle high, and gently tap until the bubbles gather at the top. Then slowly push the syringe plunger to expel the air, until the liquid appears at the end of the needle.
  3. Clean the injection site with an alcohol soaked cotton ball. Hold the part you inject firmly between the fingers and insert the needle at an angle of between 45° and 90°.
  4. HCG must not be administered directly into a vein. To exclude this possibility, pull the plunger to check for the presence of blood. If this occurs, remove the syringe and repeat the process at another site.
  5. Inject all of the solution, subcutaneously or intramuscularly, by slowly pressing down on the plunger.
  6. Remove the needle immediately and clean the injection area with an alcohol soaked cotton ball using a circular motion.
  7. Once the injection is finished, immediately dispose of the used needles and empty glassware safely, preferably in a sharps container.

Reminder

Always use hCG immediately after reconstitution–do not store it for later use. Unlike multi-dose hCG vials mixed with bacteriostatic water, our hCG treatment (brand name: Gonasi) is reconstituted with sterile water, which does not contain preservatives. That means that once mixed, it must be used straight away and any leftover solution must be discarded.
