Wegovy (Semaglutide) Injection Instructions

Follow these steps to self-administer your weekly Wegovy injection safely and effectively at home using the pre-filled pen.

Tips

Before You Inject Wegovy – Important Details

Administering Wegovy FlexTouch pen at home is simple, but there are a few key steps that help prevent errors and support a smooth injection:
  • Each pre-filled pen is multi-dose and contains a total of 4 doses (1 dose per week).
  • Inject once a week, on the same day each week. Consistency is crucial for steady results.
  • Let the pen reach room temperature (about 30 minutes) before injecting if it’s been in the fridge. This makes the injection more comfortable.
  • Inspect the pen before use: The solution should be clear and colorless. Do not use it if it is cloudy, frozen, or if the pen is damaged or expired.
  • Rotate injection sites weekly. You can inject into your thigh, abdomen (at least 5 cm inches from the navel), or upper arm (if someone else is administering).
  • Do not inject into bruised, red, hard, or tender areas.
  • Avoid alcohol or excessive food just before injection: To reduce nausea, many people find it helpful to eat a small, protein-rich meal 1–2 hours beforehand.
  • Dispose of the pen properly after all 4 doses have been used, preferably in a sharps bin.

Instructions for using your Wegovy FlexTouch Pen

Administering your Wegovy injection is simple once you know the steps, and it quickly becomes part of your routine. The FlexTouch pen is designed for ease and accuracy—just follow the instructions carefully each time to ensure you get the full, correct dose. Take a moment to read through the guide below before you start, and you’ll feel confident giving your injection from day one.

Get ready

  1. Wash your hands with soap and water.
  2. Pull the pen cap straight off. Check the pen label and strength match your prescription, and look through the pen window to make sure the solution is clear and colourless. Do not use if:
    • The medication name or dose strength does not match your prescription.
    • The FlexTouch pen is expired or looks damaged.
    • The medication has been frozen, has particles, is cloudy, or is discolored.
  3. Attach a new needle for every injection:
    • Tear off the paper tab.
    • Push the capped needle straight onto the pen and twist until tight.
    • Pull off the outer needle cap and keep it—you’ll reuse it after the injection.
    • Pull off the inner needle cap and discard it.
  4. First use of a new pen only — check the flow (prime):
    • Turn the dose selector to the flow check symbol (looks like a small line icon).
    • Hold the pen with the needle pointing up.
    • Press and hold the dose button until the dose counter returns to 0 and a drop appears at the needle tip.
    • If no drop appears, repeat the flow check once more; if still no drop, change the needle and try again. If there’s still no drop, do not use the pen.

Injecting your Wegovy FlexTouch pen

  1. Choose an injection site: the front of your thigh, your stomach (abdomen) at least 5cm from the belly button, or the upper arm (if someone else is injecting). Rotate sites—don’t inject into the exact same spot each week.
  2. Set your dose: turn the dose selector until your prescribed dose (0.25 mg, 0.5 mg, 1 mg, 1.7 mg, or 2.4 mg) lines up with the dose pointer. Make sure you can see the dose counter—don’t cover it with your fingers.
  3. Inject:
    • Insert the needle into your skin.
    • Press and hold the dose button until the dose counter shows 0.
    • Keep the needle in your skin and slowly count to 6, then remove the needle. (If you remove it too early, you may not receive the full dose.)
  4. If the dose counter stops before 0 because there isn’t enough medicine left in the pen, dispose of the pen (without the needle) and start again with a new pen. If 0 does not appear after pressing continuously, the needle may be blocked or damaged—change the needle and inject again.

After injecting

  1. If you see blood after you pull the needle out of your skin, lightly press the injection site with gauze or a cotton ball. Do not rub the injection site.
  2. Carefully place the outer needle cap back on.
  3. Unscrew the needle, and put it in a sharps container.
  4. Replace the pen cap. Do not store the FlexTouch pen without the pen cap attached.
